the daggers voice
Endeavour and Spirit are two words that run through the veins of Dagenham and Redbridge Football Club. Us fans would endure a 5-0 loss but only if the players exited the pitch clapping the fans, panting their hearts out and appreciating the support displayed.
Over the years I have not once doubted that any player did not give 100% from each and every game, from the Essex Senior Cup to a league match. This season, however, there have been a number of instances that have jeopardised our reputation even culminating in an online petition to the board encouraging them to make changes.
A keen fan of the JPT, I was delighted when Dagenham had been drawn at Stevenage in the second round. We had recently beaten Cambridge, 2-0, and had another winnable tie here. However, when I learnt I would be going to the Lamex, the appeal grew even stronger.
As the night grew nearer my excitement did too. The Lamex Stadium was a ground I'd never set foot in before and we had a big chance to prevail to the Area Quarter-Final. Eventually October 7th came and I left for school - various potential outcomes swirling around my brain. Finally the day progressed. Double PE, English, Maths and Science came and went. I then waited for my Dad's recognisable red car to arrive on the school grounds and whisk me to the 'Chigwell Construction Stadium'. I say 'whisk', the journey consisted of traffic, traffic and more traffic. But we got there.
Dagenham and Redbridge never cease to amaze or astonish me. This is the story of how an amazing day can turn into an awful one in just a few minutes.
That morning, and the night prior, I was with my other nan from Canvey, Susan, who had come to look after me and Zac due to Mum being in hospital and Dad staying with her. I went down, played a bit of FIFA, and watched some television. The remainder of the morning flew by and before I knew it my other nan had arrived.
Upon arrival to the ground after a short journey, I was surprised to see Ben who was - to my sheer horror - clutching a torn and creased programme ready to be signed by the Mansfield squad. I then got mine. This was when Nan asked to see the programme before subsequently flicking to the page entitled 'Club News'.
I am Joel Page, Dagenham & Redbridge FC fan. Here I will share some of my experiences.
