the daggers voice
It was at the first game of the season against Southport when I first heard the name Corey Whitely mentioned. It was at half-time, with Daggers 2-0 up and cruising, that the tannoy announced the signing of both himself and club legend Paul Benson.
I saw he was from Enfield Town and just assumed he would be a talented youngster looking to push into the team this year or the next. But, fast forward three months, and not only is Whitely thoroughly imbedded into our starting XI, he is one of our most vital players.
He can use his left foot as well as his right, can take on players and deliver a peach of a cross, and - as we've seen at Eastleigh and at home to Aldershot - can come up with a crucial goal.
Thankfully, though, having players such as Fejiri and Hawks in the team compliments his ability and hopefully he will continue to get better and better. Against Macclesfield last weekend, he was menacing throughout the game and looked like he would score whenever he got on the ball. In midweek, he had to fill in out wide and still performed fantastically, scoring the winner with nine minutes to go a testament to his performance.
Tomorrow we have the toughest game of our season so far as we travel to the New Lawn to face Forest Green. It is going to be incredibly tricky as it is with many players injured but, when you have players like Whitely in this form, I know we can get a result.
