It's almost here. After what seems like ages, the Daggers kick off their National League campaign on Saturday against Southport; the eight friendlies suggest we're a side with real promise that can definitely challenge near the top of the division this season.
Over the summer there is no doubting that John Still has been busy making transfers and, although he himself has admitted we're short in some areas, I'm very pleased with what I've seen in the three friendlies I've attended so far. However, as much as we've impressed in pre-season, between playing against Romford and playing against Forest Green - there is simply no comparison, and there are still many unanswered questions ahead of the big kick-off. Questions such as: Can our young and inexperienced squad cope with the pressures of being expected to challenge for promotion? Nobody knows. Can Assombalonga, Okenabirhie and Maguire-Drew fill the voids of Cureton, Doidge, Ashley Hemmings and Jodi Jones? Nobody know. And will Howell and Doe be the same players they were when they left? Again, nobody knows. So I guess nobody can anticipate how next season will go. And until Saturday at least, those questions will remain unanswered. Either way, Saturday promises to be an unforgettable day, and I can't wait. Hopefully we'll get off to the best possible start against Southport and the momentum will carry us through to a great August.
